Die können den Hals einfach nicht voll genug bekommen, die Chinesen. Erst nehmen sie Europa alle Arbeitsplätze weg, jetzt klauen sie den hiesigen Plattenfirmen auch noch die Bands, und noch nicht mal die schlechtesten. Nun ja, so ist das heutzutage wohl, doch immerhin sehen die drei neuen Veröffentlichungen von Temple of Torturous ganz ordentlich aus. Es handelt sich um schicke Digis in der Art von Angra Mainyus "Versunkenheit", wie diese von Hand gefertigt, wobei es keiner monströsen Vorurteile bedarf, um zu vermuten, dass hier viel kleinere Hände als die des Haunters am Werke waren. Aber egal, hier soll es um Musik gehen. Drei deutsche Bands hat es ins Reich der Mitte verschlagen: BinZynisch bietet auf der neuen EgoNoir-Mini im Prinzip mehr vom Gleichen. Das ist nicht übel, aber etwas Neues wäre zur Abwechslung nicht schlecht, doch dazu mehr zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt. Grams "May I never hear your voices again..." dagegen ist so durchschnittlich, unbedeutend und langweilig, dass ich mich zu einem ausführlichen Kommentar wohl nur hinreissen lassen werde, wenn mich irgendwann mal ganz derbe die Langeweile zwickt.
Dass sie das höchstwahrscheinlich nicht tut, liegt an Bands wie Total Negation, dem dritten Projekt im ToT-Bunde. An Leuten also, die man unbedingt bewerben will und muss, was für den ganzen Rest wenig Zeit übrig lässt. Schon das Demo "A Life Lead by Sorrow and Not by Myself" hat mir seinerzeit ziemlich gut gefallen, und "Zeitenwende" kann dieses Niveau mindestens halten. Obwohl ich zugeben muss, bei der ersten Bekanntschaft mit dem Album etwas skeptisch gewesen zu sein. Es hat sich nämlich einiges getan bei Total Negation: die Musik ist ein bisschen weniger doomig und mehr "typischer" BM, man hat sich ein Standardlogo zugelegt, und die Texte sind heuer in deutscher Sprache abgefasst. Insgesamt also kann man nicht gerade von einem Zugewinn an Charakter sprechen. Das kann man dem Projekt aber spätestens nach dem zweiten Durchlauf verzeihen, denn rein musikalisch ist das Album äusserst gelungen. Verantwortlich dafür ist in meinen Ohren vor Allem die gelungene Gitarrenarbeit, da wird mal verzweifelt gewimmert, mal geht es energisch voran, und bisweilen zaubern die sechs Saiten ganz wunderbar elegische Melodien hervor. Als Beispiel für Letzteres sei mal die Drei-Minuten-Marke bei "Widerstand" genannt, einfach ergreifend. Desweiteren hat Alleinunterhalter Wiedergänger ein gutes Gespür für flüssige Arrangements, was zusammen mit seinen umfassenden instrumentalen Fähigkeiten dem Silberling einen sehr reifen und souveränen Charakter verleiht.
"Zeitenwende" ist ein so gelungener Albumeinstand, dass man von Total Negation schon in naher Zukunft die ganz grossen Grosstaten erwarten darf. Ich bin auf jeden Fall sehr gespannt. |

Those Chinese just can't get enough. First they take away all jobs in Europe and now they even steal bands from the labels in the very same region, and on top of that, not even the worst ones. Well, I guess this is the way it goes nowadays but despite all that, the three new releases from Temple of Torturous look pretty well done. Nice digipaks à la Angra Mainyu's "Versunkenheit", they are hand-made, and of course one does not need lots of prejudices to guess that those hands were much smaller than the Haunter's ones. But whatever, it should be all about the music. Three German bands have made it to the Middle Kingdom: BinZynisch basically offers more of the same on his new Mini-CD under the banner of his project EgoNoir. That is not bad, although something new would be greater - more on this topic at another time. Gram's "May I never hear your voices again..." however is so average, so unimportant and boring that only extreme boredom could bring me to write more about this album.
It is due to bands such as Total Negation, the third project on the ToT rooster, that the chances for that kind of boredom are rather slim. Some bands just deserve and demand so much attention that their lesser peers will be left without any. I already liked the demo "A Life Lead by Sorrow and Not by Myself" back then and "Zeitenwende" can at least hold up to that level of quality. Granted, I have to say that I was pretty skeptical the first time I got in touch with this very record here because a lot has happened in the Total Negation camp: the music contains less Doom and more "typical" BM, they got a standard logo and the lyrics are in German nowadays. So all in all, there is not much gain in the uniqueness department. However, one can forgive the project for that during the second listening the latest because the album is extremly good. This is mainly due to the tremendous guitar work; you get some sorrowful moments here, some energetic movement there and once in a while, the six strings come up with melodies full of elegy. An example for this can be found around the three-minute-mark in "Widerstand" - simply heart-wrenching! Furthermore, sole member Wiedergänger has a great feeling for smooth arrangements which, combined with his solid musicianship, provides the record with a very mature and confident nature.
"Zeitenwende" is such a well-done debut that one now can or rather has to expect the really big ones from Total Negation. I definitely cannot wait to listen to the next offering.
