Thurlokh, momentan einziges Mitglied unter dem Banner von Wolfthorn, war seit dem Entstehen seines Projektes
um die Jahrtausendwende nicht untätig. So erblickten bereits einige Demos und Alben des Wolfsdorns die
Dunkelheit der Welt, was man dem aktuellen Werk "Cold Inside" auch deutlich anmerkt, denn das hier Gebotene
ist nicht irgendwelches Gestümper, sondern durchweg professionell. Das beginnt bei der sehr gelungenen
Aufmachung der Scheibe und hört bei dem auf, was einem dann aus den Lautsprechern entgegen donnert.
Doch ich muss zugeben, dass ich bei Letzterem, also der Musik, doch im ersten Augenblick kritisch war, denn
die Eröffnung "Join The Legions" legt auch gleich mit dem los, was sich im Verlauf des Albums als der
eindeutige Schwachpunkt offenbaren sollte: der Konserven-Blastbeat. Normalerweise habe ich ja nicht wirklich
etwas gegen einen künstlichen Drummer, wenn er aber so präsent und in den Vordergrund gestellt ist, wie bei
den schnelleren Passagen, kommt einfach Abneigung auf. Zum Glück geht es aber nicht die ganze Zeit so und in
den eher getragenen Momenten kommt dann auch die große Stärke von Wolfthorn durch - der von frostig sägenden
Gitarren und hasserfülltem Gesang getragene satanische Untergrund-Schwarzstahl, so wie er einfach sein muss:
kalt und hart!
Und für Freunde eben dieser Spielart sollte dieses Werk auch das Richtige sein, denn auch wenn "Cold Inside"
natürlich nichts Neues präsentiert, wirkt das Gehörte doch so wunderbar traditionell und bodenständig, dass
es einem schlicht und ergreifend das schwarze Herz erfreut... |

Being the only member under the banner of Wolthorn at the moment, Thurlokh was quite busy since the beginning
of his project around the millennium as several demos and albums already arouse out of the depths of hell - a
fact that can definitely be noticed while listening to the current release "Cold
Inside". Not some kind of botch is presented to the listener but a completely professional piece of work, starting with the decent
artwork and ending with what is roaring out of your speakers.
But I have to admit, that at first I was quite a bit sceptic about the music as the opener "Join The Legions"
starts right with what turns out to be the single clear weakness: the tin-like sounding Blastbeat. Normally I
don't have any problems dealing with an artificial drummer, but when it's given that emphasis - especially in
the faster parts - feelings of dislike are coming up. Luckily it's not going on like this all the time and in
the more solemn moments the big strength of Wolfthorn breaks through: satanic underground black metal carried
on wings of frosty sawing guitars together with hateful vocals. That's the way it's got to be: cold and hard!
And for fans of right this kind of music this work should be perfectly right for although "Cold Inside" of
course doesn't reinvent the wheel, it still sounds wonderfully traditional and native - simply pleasing the
black heart...
