Universal Hate Decades Ultimatum
(MCD 2005)

Zugegeben, die mir hier vorliegende MCD stellt für mich die erste Begegnung mit der Musik Lord Genocides dar. Dabei ist "Universal Hate Decades Ultimatum" bereits die fünfte Veröffentlichung dieses französischen Ein-Mann-Projektes, das sich den Black/Death Metal auf die Fahne geschrieben hat. Und das gar nicht mal schlecht. Die Songs weisen durchgehend eine durchdachte Struktur auf, die umso beeindruckender wird, wenn man bedenkt, dass der gute Lord alle Instrumente selbst eingehämmert haben soll, folglich also auch kein Drumcomputer zum Einsatz kommt. Gut, die Riffs haben teilweise schon einen ziemlichen Bart, aber in Anbetracht der sich in neuester Zeit entwickelnden Szene ist man für so etwas durchaus wieder empfänglich, ja fast schon dankbar. Negativ hingegen schlägt die sehr dünne Produktion zu Buche, die unweigerlich an die "Grothesque Autumnal Weeping" von Third Moon erinnert, und für einen Black/Death Act einfach unpassend erscheint. Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt stellt der Gesang dar; saft- und kraftlos ins Mikrofon gegrunzt, stört dieser zusätzlich ab und an durch Ploppgeräusche, die offensichtlich vom Nichtvorhandensein eines Windschutzes herrühren.
Kommen wir abschließend zum größten Manko, dem letzten Stück und gleichzeitig Namensgeber dieser Veröffentlichung, welches die ansonsten wohl etwas magere Spielzeit von rund 16 Minuten auf satte 33 Minuten pusht. Im Grunde ist gegen ein überlanges Stück ja nichts einzuwenden, so es sich denn wenigstens um Musik handelt und nicht, wie in diesem Fall, um ein industrielles Drum-Geknirsche nervtötendster Art.

I must admit that the MCD at hand is the first encounter with the music of Lord Genocide. Thereby "Universal Hate Decades Ultimatum" is already the fifth output of this French one-man-project, which has Black/Death Metal written all over his banner. And not bad, indeed. The songs permanently show a sophisticated structure and the fact that the good Lord is reported to have played all his instruments on his own (which means that there is no drum computer applied) impresses furthermore. Ok, the riffs have partially grown old and grey, nevertheless compared to the developing scene of our time one is susceptive, almost appreciative. Negatively significant is the very thin production, which inevitably reminds of Third Moon's "Grotesque Autumnal Weeping", simply not suitable for a Black/Death act. A further critical point is the vocalisation; grunted powerlessly into the microphone it annoys from time to time by plopping sounds, obviously due to the lack of a windshield.
Concluding with the biggest drawback, the last piece of music, coevally the eponym of this output, which pushes the otherwise rawboned playtime of sixteen minutes up to thirtythree minutes. Basically there is nothing against extra-long piece, as long as it is about music and not industrial drum crunching the most tedious way like in the case.
