Aus dem Land der Tulpen, Fahrräder und fliegenden Menschen erreicht uns dieser Tage das neueste Langeisen von
Salacious Gods. Spartanisch auf "Piene" getauft, soll uns das dritte reguläre Release der Oranjes nun vollends
wegblasen, doch um's vorwegzunehmen, das tut es nicht. Aber keine Panik, überzeugen können die elf Hau
Drauf-Stücke dennoch ohne große Probleme.
Das Quintett setzt uns ergo rauschartige Prügelorgien vor die Nase,
die mit jeder Menge Wut und Aggression gespickt sind. Dabei fallen in erster Linie die verhältnismäßig
eigenständigen, eher geschrien-hintergründigen Vocals auf, was dem sicher angestrebten, eigenen
Stil natürlich nur zugute kommt. Der Rest ist im Grunde Alltagsware: sägende
Klampfen und rasantes Drumming. Wobei mich Letzteres wohlwollend an "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" erinnert, also wuchtig und dumpf ausfällt. Mit
'ner zünftigen Note Thrash bringt man sodann auch etwas Abwechslung ins treibende Gehacke, ohne jedoch richtig
effektiv zu sein. Kasus Knacksus nämlich ist, dass sich "Piene" zur Mitte hin in seiner monotonen Hobelei
verrennt und Ideenlosigkeit, gar Langeweile deutlich beziehungsweise erkenntlich werden. Dabei hat man
gerade bei den ersten sowie letzten beiden Tracks alles richtig gemacht. Zorniger Gesang, bangbare "Refrains",
hypnotisierende Schlagwerkerei und mitreißende Melodien, die vor Hass und Zerstörung förmlich strotzen. Selbst
der verhallte Sound mit seinem leicht symphonischen Unterton passt sehr gut zur musikalischen
Vorgehensweise Salacious Gods'. Wenn man also beim nächsten Werk Selbstzitate zu verhindern weiß und noch ein Scheit Variation
drauflegt, kann da einiges mehr passieren. Live dürfte das Material jedenfalls gut ankommen, was auf diesjährigem
UTBS herausgefunden werden kann. |

From the land of tulips, bicycles and flying human beings, this new record from Salacious Gods arrives at us
these days. Answering to the title of "Piene", the third regular release from these dutchmen shall now
astonish us completely, but anticipatory it does not. Nonetheless this eleven crushing tracks easily are
able to convince me.
The quintette reveals some sort of rushing orgies, full of aggression and hate. Primarily the proportionally
outstanding vocals, cryptically appearing in the background, surely help the band to reach the aimed
independency. The remaining elements are standard: sawing guitars and raging drums, latter benevolently
remind me of "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", ergo beamy and airless. With an efficient twist of Thrash this
group brings some variation into the impulsive arrangements without being effective. But the real problem
turns out to be the monotonous shredding and lack of ideas towards the middle of "Piene". This, of course,
causes boredom, although they've done really good on the first and last two tracks. Wrathful chants, bangable
refrains, hypnotizing drum work and stirring melodies, teeming with hatred and destruction. Even the clanging
sound with its slightly symphonic undertone fits the musical approach of Salacious Gods.
In conclusion, they should avoid to copy themselves and diversify their next compositions on the next album
to get some more attention. The stuff surely will go down well which can be figured out on the upcoming
UTBS-festival.
