Man hat's mit den Skandinaviern aber auch nicht leicht! Aufgrund ihrer, sei's nun norwegischen, schwedischen
oder finnischen Vergangenheit und berechtigten Glorie, mimen die wirklichen Hoffnungsträger meist Nadeln im
allseits bekannten Heuhaufen. Obscuro sind, um's vorweg zu nehmen, eine der Bands, denen man a) kaum
Authentizität attestieren kann und b) keine Laufbahn zutraut, die länger als das Debüt sein wird.
Prinzipiell tun mir die zwei Schweden fast leid, denn dass sie ein gewisses Charisma besitzen, kann man ihnen
kaum abstreiten. Und mit etwas Fantasie und ca. 5 Bier im Blut klingt der Sound auf "När Mörkret Slukar
Ljuset" sogar beinahe eigenständig. Summ-summ, klopf-klopf, krächz-krächz. Billig, aber wenig uninteressant,
zumal nicht unbedingt Darkthrone als erste Paten ins Spiel kommen. Unverhoffterweise erinnert mich die
hiesige Produktion an das, in meinen Augen, famose "The Cainian Chronicle"-Debüt von Ancient - eventuell
können auch die Demos dieser Multikulti-Truppe zum Vergleich herangezogen werden. Sämtliche Instrumente
inklusive Gesang ertönen ergo recht steril, ohne industrielle Eindrücke zu hinterlassen. Aus einem Guss
möchte man meinen. Soweit so gut. Nach 4 Jahren Bandexistenz frage ich mich allerdings, wie man
kompositorisch dermaßen im Abseits dribbeln kann. Bis auf die immer noch unweit verbreitete Spielweise, den
Saiten disharmonische Einschübe zu entlocken, kann das Duo lediglich auf die hypnotisierende Wirkung lahmer
Monotonie bauen (nicht vergessen: 5 Bier Minimum). Das kann reizvoll sein, muss es aber nicht. Der Tacho
zeigt fast durchgehend 120 km/h an, womit ein eventueller Depri-Wink im Nu ausscheidet. Thrashig ist man
auch nicht, dafür wird zu unmotivierend und simpel gerifft. Black Metal in reinstem Blute quasi. Dass das im
Falle von Obscuro zu 70% stinklangweilig, uninspiriert und altbacken klingt, scheinen die Protagonisten
selbst nicht zu wissen.
So sehr der Sound dieses Demos in meinem Sinne knackig ist, so unbedeutend, unreif und vor allem unnötig ist
"När Mörkret Slukar Ljuset". Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass die zwei Herren entweder den schwarzmetallischen
Dienst quittieren oder sich mal haarscharf Gedanken darüber machen, was sie mit dem teils unverkennbaren
Potenzial doch (hätten) erreichen können. |

Those Scandinavians really don't make it easy! By the reason of their norwegian, swedish or finnish past and also
entitled glory most of the bright spots mime like the needle in the well known haystack. To anticipate - Obscuro
is a band you wouldn't a) attest any authenticity and b) won't rate them a longer career than their debut.
On principle I'm sorry about these two swedes because without any doubt they have charisma. And with a little bit
of fantasy and some beers in your veins "När Mörkret Slukar Ljuset" sounds quite independent. Summ summ, pock
pock, krrk krrk. Cheap but less uninteresting, and Darkthrone weren't the leading influence. Unexpectingly this
production reminds me of the clinking "The Cainian Chronicle" - debut album by Ancient - maybe this demos can be
taken as a comparison. Ergo all instruments including the voice sound steril, without leaving industrial
impressions. Of a piece, you may think. So far so good. But I ask myself how a band can play that offside after
4 years of existance. Except for the unusual way of worming some disharmonic tunes out of your guitar, the duo
simply counts on hypnotising and lame monotony (5 beer minimum, don't forget it). That may be charming but doesn't
necessarily have to. The speedo shows 120 km/h and immediately exludes any hint of a depressive part. And because
of the simple riffing you can't say that they are anyhow thrashing. Pure blood black metal so to say. In Obscuro's
case this sounds in two thirds of playing time more or less boring, uninspired and dowdy.
As much as "När Mörkret Slukar Ljuset"'s sound seems firm to me it's also ineffectual. So we're left with the hope
that those two Misters either quit their black metal duty or think hard about what they could have achieved with
their distinctive potential.
