Die
allgemeine Euphorie um die Franzosen von Mortifera ließ sich von mir
anfangs nur bedingt nachvollziehen. Sie musizieren weder revolutionär,
noch wurde die Stilistik des Depressive Black Metals bis ins Detail
ausgereizt oder verfeinert. Dennoch muss ich gestehen: Das Duett geht
mit überall bekannten Mitteln sehr wirkungsvoll um. Denn "Vastiia
Tenebrd Mortifera" im Ganzen glänzt durch Düsternis und träumerische
Schwermut.
Verwendete Zutaten zeichnen sich (eigentlich!) durch Standards aus:
Monotone Saitenarbeit und watendes Drumming. Nicht zuletzt kann man dem
Mittelmaß jedoch gesanglich entschlüpfen. In erster Linie passt die
französische Lyrik im hiesigen Fall hervorragend ins Gesamtbild und
verleiht Geiistmortts kehlig-kreischendem Organ eine ganz eigene Marke.
Das lässt anfangs nicht nur interessiert aufhorchen, sondern verwandelt
sich im Laufe der Stücke zu einer festen, unverzichtbaren Größe, die
bestimmend für Wirkung und Atmosphäre des Albums ist. Aber
herausragende Stimmleistung und grundlegend durchschnittliche
Instrumentalisierung machen bei weitem kein gutes Gesamtwerk. Richtig,
die Kompositionen an sich sitzen schlicht und ergreifend. Mortifera
zeigen mit Nachdruck, dass sie befähigt sind, zündende, hängenbleibende
und tiefgehende Melodien zu kreieren und dementsprechende Songs zu
schreiben. Alte Eisen müssen eben nur in die richtige Form gegossen
werden, um zu glänzen. So bedient sich das Duett neben einfach tollen
Melodien auch disharmonisch anmutenden Breaks, die einen originellen
Kontrast zur restlichen Vorgehensweise darstellen. Zudem zweigt man
(leider recht selten) in fast liebliche Akustik-Ausdrücke ab und hebt
den ohnehin, für diese BM-Sparte, überdurchschittlichen
Abwechslungreichtum noch weiter hervor. Dem Fluss der Musik, einem Einsägen
ins Gehirn und dessen finsterer Reaktion darauf tun diese Eigenschaften
dennoch keinen Abbruch. So erntet man auch den deutlichsten Erfolg,
indem "Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera" als Kompaktes erlebt wird.
Den Franzosen ist im Wust der grauen Masse etwas Graueres und vor allem
etwas Besonderes gelungen. |

First I was not able to understand the general euphoria around the french
of Mortifera in all cases. Their way of making music is neither revolutionary nor they
did refine the style depressive black metal in a spectacular way. Furthermore
I have to wittness: the duet is able to use the ordinary styles in a special and
effective way. So "Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera" as a whole is able to impress with
darkness and dreamlike melancholy.
The used components are (actually) state kind: monotonous
guitars and
wading drumming. Not at least the vocals are the escape route out of
mediocrity. Actually in this case the french vocals fit perfectly into the general view
and "Geiistmortts" throaty screaming organ has a very own brand. First it makes you carefully
listening but
on its way it gets an inalienable power that is decisive for the effect and
atmosphere of
the album. But a prominent voice and almost average instrumentation can't
even make
a good album. Right, it's the composition that does the job in this case.
Mortifera prove
that they are able to create fire catching, gripping and deep melodies and
to write their
songs that way. Old iron has only to be poured into the right form, to
shine.
So the duet uses simple but great melodies and disharmonic seeming breaks
that explain
an interesting contrast to the remaining approach. By the way they branch
off into slight
and soft impressions and make further distinctions to that kind of black metal.
But there is no interruption of the flow of the music and the deep sawing
into the brain with its darkening reaction on it by these aspects. So the success to experience
"Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera" as a whole. Inside the endless fields of gray
matter the french boys have done something "grayer" and even something special.
