"Vredens Tid" heißt das nunmehr vierte Album der schwedischen Nordmänner und ich muss mich hüten, sie als
Wikinger zu bezeichnen. Dabei tun sie es einem, und vor allem sich selbst, schwer.
Thematisch in heimischer Sagenerzählung und Mythologie verankert, hakt es an deren musikalischer Umsetzung.
Anstatt in einer Synthese zu verschmelzen, trennen Månegarm die Metalmusik von den epischen Bestandteilen. Und
selbst diese können nur bedingt solche Klangbilder zeichnen. Da nützen weder Akustikklänge noch Frauengesang
oder Kriegsgetümmel: vielmehr fühlt man sich unglücklicherweise teils an Deutschlands populäre Straßenrockband
(R.I.P.) erinnert, anstatt an alte Zeiten voll von Trollen und Schwertern.
Recht spannungsarm klingt das Ganze und mehr nach Rock als nach epischer Schwarzkunst - 08/15-Riffs und Grölgesang.Månegarm liefern mit "Vredens Tid" durchaus solide Musik, die man gelegentlich nebenbei hören kann, doch mit
solch leichter Kost lässt sich der Viking Metal-Thron nicht erklimmen. |

"Vredens Tid" is the henceforward fourth album of the Swedish Norsemen and I have to beware not to call them Vikings.
One and mostly themselves have difficulties with this.
Thematically anchored in native myth and mythology it got stuck in the musical transformation. Instead of merging it
into a synthesis Månegarm divide the music from the epic components. And even those can only conditionally plot such
sound characteristics. Neither acoustic sounds nor female vocals nor turmoil of war is useful: in fact you sense
reminded of Germany's popular streetrock band (R.I.P) than of old times of trolls and swords.
The whole thing sound quite lacking of stress more towards rock than epical black art - trivial riffs and raucous
bawling. By all means Månegarm deliver with "Vredens Tid" solid music to listen to secondarily, however, the throne
of Viking metal is not to scale with such slight fare.
