Mit "Ewiger Hass" erreichte mich kürzlich das erste Demoband der deutschen Horde von Golgatha. Und, obwohl
optisch unspektakulär, weiß dabei zumindest schon einmal die saubere Aufmachung zu gefallen. Was allerdings
sollte mich musikalisch hinter solchen Titeln wie "Gedanken" oder "Einsamkeit" erwarten? Ermüdender
Depressiv-Black Metal ohne den Anflug von Atmosphäre (wie oft zu hören dieser Tage) oder doch eher eins
dieser übersteuerten Proberaumverbrechen (noch viel öfter zu hören...)?
Zum Glück weder noch. So merkt man der Truppe, nach dem kurzen Intro, bereits im Titelstück an, dass man es
offensichtlich besser machen wollte, zumindest klangtechnisch. Leider schießt man dabei etwas übers Ziel
hinaus, denn insgesamt ist die Produktion für meinen Geschmack deutlich zu voluminös ausgefallen. Und eben
das nimmt dem gesamten Demo deutlich die akustische Kälte, welche Black Metal nun eigentlich inne wohnen
sollte. Im Grunde schade, denn unter all dem Gewummer sind in den vier vertretenen Eigenkompositionen
tatsächlich einige gute Ansätze auszumachen. Zwar nichts einer Offenbarung gleichkommend, so vermögen sich
auch nach mehrmaligen Hören keine konkreten Stückbeispiele in meinem Gedächtnis festzusetzen, dennoch aber
solide und variabel eingespielt. Für einen ersten Schritt also letztendlich gar nicht mal schlecht, zumindest
eine gute Basis um darauf aufzubauen. Wir warten ab. |

"Ewiger Hass", which I recently received, is the first demo-tape of this German horde called Golgatha.
Althouth it's optically unspectacular, at least the neat presentation inherently appeals to the eye. But
what might one expect from the music, concerning titles such as "Gedanken" or "Einsamkeit"? Tiresome depressive black metal without the shadow of any atmosphere (as it is well-known
these days) or rather one of those overdriven crimes from the rehearsal room (even better known...)?
Fortunately, nothing of that is the case. As soon as the title track starts (after a short intro) you
realize they obviously wanted to produce something better, at least concerning the sound. Sadly, they
overshoot the mark a bit as the production is definitely much too voluminous to suit my taste. Exactly that's
what takes the acoustic coldness black metal actually should include off the whole demo. It's a pity after
all, because there are indeed some nice attempts hidden beneath all the blast. Nothing remarkable, though,
as no particular samples is able to impress into the memory, but nevertheless it's all performed in a solid
and variable way. Eventually it's not that bad, probably a firm footing to build up onto. We'll stay tuned.
