In Hoc Signo Vinces (CD 2004)

Founded in the year of 2002 and having released a demo and an EP, Angst releases their first album which is out on 29th of March. The record is called "In Hoc Signo Vinces" and immediately reminds me of their well known label brothers Dark Fortress when I first listened to it.
After a little sit-down I let this wild orcane blow me away one more time, but this time I skip this feeble-minded and needless Intro in which one can hear a bestial rape. I get aggressive, vitriolic and sharpened singing, accompanied by rich, deep and sometimes slightly Death Metal-like riffs. Most of the time you listen to last Blast Beat- and Double Bass-parts but this isn't everything which Angst actually are able to play because the songs aren't that monotonous: Stamping, heavy-like-a-ton headbanging sections, hate orgies without variety and really brutal sounding, high lead melodies are taking turns. Thus it's all about a quite dynamic half-hour record of thick, frantic and aggressive Black Metal. If you lump Naglfar, Tsjuder and the older works of Dark Funeral together, add some deathy groove and mix it powerfully, you'd get a very similar thing to "In Hoc Signo Vinces".
Angst really has some potential! Let's hope that they have done a good decision when they were told by the vocalist of Dark Fortress that Black Attakk is a good label.
