Zweimalige Auflösung binnen gerade einmal fünf Jahren Laufzeit - da muss doch etwas schief laufen, oder? Das tut
es allerdings: Die eine Hälfte von Aegir wandert in die heißen Regionen Australiens ab, während der Rest zu
Hause in Schweden bleibt. Traurig auch, dass die Band kaum Zeit gefunden hat, weitere, vielleicht sogar
wesentlich bessere Lieder zu schreiben als es hier der Fall ist.
Denn was "Frostnatt" qualitativ zu bieten hat, ist wahrlich wenig: Hastig zusammengeklautes, überwiegend
schleppendes Material, das heutzutage weit besser hätte gelöst werden können. Da wäre zum Beispiel das
Instrumental "Yggdrasil", mit dem das Martyrium seinen Lauf nimmt. Unabgestimmt werkelt jeder an seiner Aufnahme
herum, ohne Rücksicht auf die anderen, zudem sind einige Parts dermaßen schräg eingespielt worden, dass sich die
Ohrmuscheln am liebsten verstecken würden, wenn sie bloß könnten. Die eine Gitarre schmettert dem Hörer
melancholische Riffs entgegen, während die Rhythmus-Gitarre zeitversetzt sowie lustlos wirkend das musikalische
Geschehen unterstützt. Was erschwerend hinzukommt ist die Tatsache, dass die Vocals nicht die besten sind,
sondern eher in Death- denn Pagan Metal-Hymnen passen; Gegrunze und Geknurre bis zum Abwinken. Trotzdem scheint
jederzeit die gegebene Mühe durch, was vor allem dem doch akzeptablen Schaffen des Lead-Gitarreros anzumerken
ist - er ist derjenige, welcher ohrenscheinlich die größte Arbeit vollbrachte, dem Rest hingegen kann lediglich
halbherziges Mitwerkeln bescheinigt werden. Songtechnisch betrachtet gibt's ebenfalls keine Reißer: Alles klingt
irgendwie zäh, unausgegoren, einfach nicht richtig arrangiert und zurecht gezimmert, von Spielfreude kann keine
Rede sein. Bis auf den kleinen, relativ ordentlichen Akustikteil im letzten Stück gibt es sonst nichts wirklich
Erwähnenswertes.
Fazit: Wäre vielleicht besser, wenn sich die "Hinterbliebenen" neue Mitstreiter suchen, denn was die Schweden
(und Jetzt-Aussies) für Leistungen dargebracht haben... der Proberaum sollte aufgrund vorhandenen Potenzials
zwei, vielleicht drei Monate gebunkert werden, um wirklich hörenswertes Material aufzunehmen. So aber bleiben
unterm Strich lausige drei Punkte. Ab an die Anlage und was Interessanteres hören... |

Two split-ups within just 5 years, some things have went wrong there, haven't
they? They have: One half of Aegir emigrated into the hot regions of Australia while the rest decided to stay home in Sweden. Sad as well
that they did not seem to find the time to create more, maybe even better songs than those to be found on
this album, because what "Frostnatt" offers concerning the quality of the songs is pretty poor.
Hasty stolen and mostly dragging material that could have done better nowadays.
If you take the instrumental "Yggdrasil" for example which is the starting point of this matyrdom. Without any structure everybody is
just concentrated on his recordings without considering the other musicians and as if this would not be
enough, some parts sound so strange, that my ears really would like to hide somewhere if they were able to
do so. One guitar is playing melancholic riffs while the rhythm guitar is supporting the music staggered and
without any passion in some way. What makes the whole recording even worse is the fact that they did not use
the best suiting vocals because those here would fit better in Death, than in Pagan Metal hymns; growling
without end. But still one can hear that the musicians were trying to do their best which is to be heared in
the quite acceptable work done by the lead guitarist - he is the one who seems to have the biggest share on
this recording while the others seem to be satisfied by doing average work at the most. Looking at the songs
there is no real highlight: the whole album sounds glutinous, not well arranged and without any audible joy
of playing. Except of the small, well done accousticpart to be found in the last song there is nothing more
worth to be mentioned.
Summary: I guess it would be better if the members who stayed in sweden would look for some new musicians,
if you take this record as scale, and that they should rehearse for at least 2 or 3 months to create songs
that are really worth being heared. So as a result we have 3 lousy points. And now to the stereo and start
listening to something interesting.
